MTC offering free ESOL and GED® classes for a limited time

(Bradenton, FL—April 3, 2019) Manatee Technical College is offering free GED® and Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes beginning April 15. They are available day and night at three locations throughout the county. Online classes are also available, as well as one afternoon class. The only cost to the student is a $10 class t-shirt.
The free classes run through June 25. As a bonus, the offer will be extended to the fall semester to those who enroll and attend at least 12 hours before the end of this school year.
Students may choose from teacher taught or online classes. The offer applies to Adult ESOL, GED Preparation, and Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes. The classes are for adults. Under-18-year-olds may enroll but they must be 16 or older and not enrolled in high school.
Six functioning levels (foundations to advanced) of Adult ESOL classes help English language learners improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills. The curriculum includes college and career readiness, English language proficiency, and life and work competencies such as civics, consumer education, and communication.
The GED Comprehensive Preparation Program consists of four content-areas: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematics Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. The purpose of the class is to prepare students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Official GED Test and be awarded a State of Florida High School Diploma and be better prepared for postsecondary education. Those who need additional preparation may need to enroll in ABE Language Arts, Mathematics, and Reading first.
Students must apply online at https://ManateeTech.edu/apply-now from home or at the MTC Main or West Campus. After applying, students must schedule a time to take a placement test in person at either the Main or West Campus. The MTC Main Campus is located at 6305 E. State Road 70; the West Campus is at 5505 34th Street W. next to Bayshore High School.
