Air Conditioner Educational Demonstration System and Method of Operation
US Patent: US 9,965,978 B1
On May 8, 2018, US Patent number US 9,965,978 B1 was created – Air Conditioner Educational Demonstration System and Method of Operation. The training simulator represents the entire A/C refrigeration cycle. What makes this simulator so safe—a very important factor when working with students—is it uses nitrogen, a harmless gas, instead of Freon, a refrigerant that is so cold it can cause frostbite and so dangerous that the fine for accidentally releasing it into the air is over $44,000 per day according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
On April 10, 2019, The School Board of Manatee County recognized MTC instructor Dr. Michael Afanasiev for receiving a patent for an air-conditioning training simulator. His invention helps teach a complex system easily, safely and inexpensively. One of Dr. Michael’s students, Doug Windsor, helped explain how one aspect of the trainer works.
