MTC Law Enforcement Academy honors 4 for exceptional achievement

(Bradenton, FL—June 24, 2019) On June 20, Manatee Technical College celebrated the accomplishments of 14 students who completed the requirements of the Florida Law Enforcement Academy at MTC.  Four of those students were honored for exceptional achievement.

Caleb Summeralls earned the highest academic achievement award.  Nathan Lynn was honored for his skills as class leader.  Nicholas Bernier earned the award for best driving skills, and Kyle Crum—who was the assistant class leader—earned the class award for best firearms skills.

As Summeralls was leaving the stage, he was congratulated by Chief Melanie Bevan who had just hired him to work for the Bradenton Police Department.  He is one of 12 in the class who already have job offers.

Sheriff Rick Wells gave the invocation and benediction.  Captain Billy Duckett was the keynote speaker.  Deputy superintendent Doug Wagner made opening remarks.  MTC academy director Jay Romine was the Master of Ceremonies.  MTC director Dr. Valerie Viands and assistant director Dr. Jennifer Gilray joined them on stage to congratulate the graduates.

The audience was filled with family and friends, as well as dignitaries from the school board and local law enforcement agencies.

Successful completion of the MTC Law Enforcement Academy makes one eligible to take the State Certification Examination for Law Enforcement, the required test to become a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida.

The awards celebration took place in the Auditorium at Braden River High School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019.
