MTC regional competitors start and end the month strong

(Bradenton, FL—March 1, 2024) Manatee Technical College had a strong start and end to Career and Technical Education month.  MTC came into the month of February with 26 students winning first, second or third place at the 2024 HOSA Future Health Professionals Regionals and ended the month with 44 students winning gold, silver or bronze at the SkillsUSA Florida Region 6 Leadership and Skills competition.  More than 100 MTC students qualified to compete at the state level. 

Over 200 students competed at the SkillsUSA Regionals at Suncoast Tech with students from Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties. 

The stiffest competition this year was in Culinary and Baking/Pastry.  MTC’s Senderley Charitable took first place in Culinary Arts, and Madelin Betanzos took second place in Commercial Baking, both at the postsecondary (college) level. 

Some of the other highlights for MTC programs: 

  • Advanced Manufacturing – 12 students to compete at state in Robotics and Additive Manufacturing
  • Dental Assisting – 7 students won first-place medals and 8 qualified to compete at state in Dental Assisting, Action Skills, and Career Pathways-Health Services and -Human Services
  • Cybersecurity – New for MTC this year; team of two took second place and will go on to state.
  • Barbering – Team of 3 took first place in Community Service for their work at the Stand Down; they qualify to compete at state along with 4 classmates who will compete in Barbering.
  • Marine Service Technology – 4 students placed; MTC postsecondary students won silver and bronze at the college level and high school dual-enrolled students won gold and silver at the secondary level
  • Wins in Advertising Design, CNC, Electrical Construction Wiring, HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Industrial Motor Control, and Automotive.  For a complete list of winners and competitions, please see attached.
