MTC student’s artwork selected from over 11,000 entries

(Bradenton, FL—January 18, 2019) The artwork of Kathryn (Mazzanti) DeYoung was chosen for inclusion in the upcoming Embracing Our Differences exhibit.  Her work was one of only 45 entries selected for inclusion.  This year’s competition had 11,791 submissions from 111 countries and 44 states, including students from 239 schools.  DeYoung was a student in the Digital Design program at Manatee Technical College when she submitted her work.

DeYoung’ artist statement reads: “This piece represents to me the embodiment of the quote ‘We are all one in our struggle…only egos, beliefs, and fears separate us.’ I wanted to show with this piece that there is no difference between us, the struggles are real for us all.”

The Embracing Our Differences exhibit combines artwork and quotes to promote diversity.  The annual international juried art exhibition has been in Sarasota’s Bayfront Park since 2004.

DeYoung has since graduated from MTC.  Her instructor, Marina Proskurina, said, “Kathryn shot the photo of mannequin heads from the cosmetology program, and using Photoshop and other special effects software, she created a composite of the images.”

According to the Embracing Our Differences website (https://www.embracingourdifferences.org/exhibit/), 202,000 people visited the exhibition in 2018 for a total of 2.7 million visitors since 2004.  In 2019, the exhibit will be on display in Bayfront Park from January 19 through March 15.

Digital Design is a one-year career certificate program at Manatee Technical College.  Students learn the latest techniques in the production of digital and graphic design and prepare for Adobe Certifications.
