MTC students medal at SkillsUSA National Championships

(Bradenton, FL—June 29, 2019) Manatee Technical College had 12 students medal and nine place in the top 10 in the nation at the 2019 SkillsUSA National Championships.  Of those, two placed first in the nation and 10 placed second.  The Championships took place in Louisville, Kentucky, June 24 to 28.

Winning gold were Josie Deriso in Cosmetology and Vincent Manzo in Internetworking. Silver medalists were Shivangiban Contractor and Claudia Estrada-Carmona in Web Design; Jordan Escher in Firefighting; Julianne Spence, Morgan Peters, and Valeria Huertas-Meza in Health Sciences Career Pathways Showcase; and Kerby Jeanbrivil, Emma Palazzolo, Angel Roque, and Kelsey Slater in Health Knowledge Bowl.  All MTC wins were in the College Division.

In the high school division, Southeast High School won silver in TV Video Production.

The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation.  Approximately 6,500 high school and college students compete in over 100 separate events at the national level.

The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.
