MTC welding students refurbish sculpture at Lee Middle

(Bradenton, FL—June 25, 2019) Five Manatee Technical College welding students used their skills to refurbish the large blue metal sculpture that sits in front of Lee Middle School.

The sculpture was originally dedicated 25 years ago.  It was in need of some structural welding and reinforcement due to the years of weathering.

The students used shielded metal arc welding on the carbon steel structure and oxy-fuel torch to cut the carbon steel metal to fit what was needed to complete the job.

The students performed the refurbishing under the supervision of their instructors, Gary Martin and Jay Lloyd.

Five MTC welding students including Jay Garcia, Pat Bush, Rhian Jenkins, and Cody Constantino refurbished the sculpture in front of Lee Middle School.  The students used shielded metal arc welding and oxy-fuel torch on the carbon steel structure to complete the job.
