(Bradenton, FL—October 1, 2013)  The National Association of Orthopaedic Technologists has approved the Orthopedic Technology Program at Manatee Technical Institute for recognition status. Only eight orthopedic technology programs in the United States are NAOT recognized.

The association’s Educational Programs Review Committee approved the Orthopedic Technology Program at Manatee Technical Institute to be a NAOT-Recognized Program through December 31, 2015.  MTI will be required to renew its NAOT-recognized-school status every two years thereafter.

NAOT recognizes schools with established orthopaedic technology programs that meet standards set by the NAOT Educational Review Committee.  Approved curricula must consist of a minimum of 450 hours of instruction, as well as either a clinical rotation or an externship component of at least 200 hours.

With NAOT recognition, MTI students will be eligible to sit for the OTC® certification examination given by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists following graduation and forego the qualifying requirement of two (2) years of full time on the job training in orthopaedics.

The next class begins October 7.  For more information about MTI’s Orthopaedic Technology program, contact career counselor Ronai Krugh at krughr@manateeschools.net or by calling 752-8100, ext. 2038.
