Optometric assisting students graduate Manatee Technical College

(Bradenton, FL—June 4, 2016)   The Optometric Assisting program at Manatee Technical College held a graduation ceremony on June 4, 2016, in Wagner Auditorium.  Eight students completed the certificate program.

“You are proof we have met our mission,” said Doug Wagner, director of Manatee Technical College and Adult Career and Technical Education, as he spoke to the graduates and their families about the skills gap MTC graduates help to close.

Ronai Krugh, the career counselor who enrolled them, was the guest speaker, “Congratulations.  I am so proud of you, of who you are, and of the legacy you will create as you write the next chapters in the story of your life.”

Graduate Samantha Santaw was the class speaker.  She spoke about the journey of becoming an optometric assistant and said, “We are honored to have had the opportunity to learn at Manatee Technical College…This program has opened doors to any career in the eye care field that we choose.” She thanked MTC staff, instructor Loren Hutchison, and family and friends.  Santaw is a National Technical Honor Society member and a HOSA regional gold medalist.

The students recited the Paraoptometric Code of Conduct after receiving their certificates.
