Job Title or Skills Set Required

Chris-Craft has been building our high quality, beautiful boats for 150 years! We would love to have someone as part of our team that comes with a great attitude and willingness to learn and grow.

We are looking for candidates with assembly and finishing skills working with wood and fiberglass. Lamination skills are helpful as well.

Position Summary: Under the direction of a supervisor, effectively and efficiently form and repair plugs and molds. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Responsibilities:
• Fabricates and assembles wood and fiberglass according to blueprints to form original plugs and molds.
• Repair or modify existing molds.
• Will be required to perform fiberglass and composite lamination of molds and prototype parts.
• Understands chemical components of mixing gelcoat
• Able to grind, sand, clean and polish to correct defects and meet quality standards
• Able to prepare the part for finish work, check for air, identify thin gel, “mark the part”
• Able to mix and apply patching gel
• Able to mix and apply mill fiber and resins
• Able to fair parts with minimal surface distortion
• Understands sanding procedures and abrasive grit levels
• Efficient and effective preparation of parts
• Source/self-inspection of fiberglass parts
• Able to fair a smaller surface with no surface distortion
• Collaborates with engineering and production teams for specialized repairs
• Willingness to assist in other areas with a good attitude
• Must interface well with other employees, departments throughout Chris Craft, outside vendors, dealers, and retail customers
• Must be willing to work overtime as required to assure timely completion of critical projects
• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Training:
• High school diploma or Technical certification preferred.
• Needs to be able to read and speak English.

Experience and Skills:
• 1-2 years’ experience in similar position involving fiberglass finishing required.
• General knowledge of boat building, fiberglass construction and/or assembly in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Plug and mold building experience preferred.
• Experience with infusion and LRTM methods preferred.
• Able to read blueprints preferred.
• High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Working knowledge of use of basic hand tools, powered wood working tools, and air tools such as grinders, sanders, drills, buffers, routers, and other hand tools.
• Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
