The Marine Electrician is responsible for installing and maintaining boat wiring and electrical systems. They work with pumps, motors, electronics, wiring, and fixtures throughout vessels.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Observe all Company Policies.
• Comply fully with all Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Install, repair, and maintain 12 UDC and 120v-240v electrical systems in accordance with National Electric Code.
• Connects power supply wiring for newly installed equipment and/or for connecting cable and wiring between electrical components in accordance with electrical codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.
• Uses test equipment to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures.
• Replaces faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, etc.
• Run tests on electrical components to ensure a safe and effective installation.
• Cleans electric and housing motors on a regular basis with solvent, broom, or vacuum cleaner.
• Follows a continuous technical improvement process that includes familiarization with vessel systems, equipment, and attending factory training classes recommended or required.
• Inspect electrical systems and equipment for any damage, malfunctions, and safety hazards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Requires Vocational Training or equivalent experience in electrical maintenance.
• Strong practical understanding of OHMS Law required; strong DC knowledge preferred.
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot motor starter circuits, diagnose 3 phase power, and perform motor load calculations.
• Must be proficient in Marine electrical installations, generation systems, general marine electrical practices, switchboard and switching equipment, electrical drawing capable, troubleshooting and project oversight.
• Must follow all Safety Policies and Procedures at all times including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment).
• Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
• Ability to work with fellow coworkers in close proximity in a team environment displaying mutual respect.
• Ability to work cautiously but efficiently.
