Three high school students win awards from MTC Fire Academy

(Bradenton, FL—September 8, 2018) On September 8, Manatee Technical College celebrated the accomplishments of 10 high school students who completed the Fire Academy.  Three of those students won awards for exceptional achievement.

 

Connor McCauley earned the #HS8 class award for overall practical skills performance by achieving 98% on 300 practical skills.  Steven Penberthy earned the highest academic achievement award.  James Thrall won the award for the fastest physical agility time by completing a combat challenge in only 4 minutes 17 seconds (7 minutes is the requirement).

 

Michael Hauck was celebrated for representing MTC and the state of Florida at the SkillsUSA National Championships in the Firefighting competition just a few months earlier.  The other six class members were Anthony Carr, Nicholas Galletto, William Lehman, Michael Penkava, Monica Ramos, and Joseph Sirignano.

 

The high school students were dually-enrolled at MTC and their home high schools when they started the academy in January 2018.  The awards celebration took place in the Dr. Priscilla Haflich Auditorium at the MTC East Campus in Lakewood Ranch at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
