BRADENTON — Manatee Technical Institute’s 17th Annual Chili Cook-Off will return Friday November 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their new east county campus on SR 70, just west of I-75. Students from each program will compete against each other to win the best chili designation. Tickets are $5. Proceeds will benefit United Way of Manatee County.

In addition to the chance to win awards for their chili, students will have the chance to win awards for their costumes and booth decorations. The theme for this year is Career Time Travel; students may dress and decorate to represent their careers from a time past or future. Music will be provided by Two Way DJ Karissa Messina, a 2010 MTI Cosmetology graduate.

To benefit their career and technical student organizations, students will be selling soft drinks and other food items, such as Mississippi mud pies and tostados. Additional student fundraising activities include “horseshoes,” an egg roll and a corn-hole toss.

Representatives from United Way and MTI’s Board of Governors will serve as judges. The event is open to the public, so come out and enjoy the food, music and fun. Tickets will be available the day of the event.

MTI’s east county campus is located at 6305 State Road 70 East, one mile west of I-75. For more information, contact MTI event organizer Nancy Lawrence at lawrencen@manateeschools.net or 941.751.7900 ext. 1009, or visit MTI’s website at www.ManateeTech.edu.
