The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) Foundation, in partnership with the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX), is set to host a Student Career Day on Thursday, October 5th, in Tampa, Florida. This event is designed to provide an exclusive insight into the boating industry for more than 60 students hailing from marine technical schools in Florida. Among the confirmed participating schools are Manatee Technical College, Ft. Myers Technical College, and Suncoast Technical College.
This one-day event will encompass a luncheon featuring guest speakers from exhibitors, offering marine service students the opportunity to meet and network with professionals while touring exhibit halls. Additionally, students will gain access to select IBEX technical seminars.
Some of the technical seminars tailored for students include:
“Customer Care in the Service Yard” by Steve D’Antonio, Steve D’Antonio Marine Consulting
“Hands-on Connectors” by John Barry, Technical Marine Support, LLC
“Science of Composites: Understand “Why” rather than simply “How,” by Bob Lacovara, IYRS School of Technology & Trades
Sarah Devlin, the Accreditation Director of ABYC Foundation, emphasized their commitment to bridging the gap between aspiring marine technicians and industry leaders. She stated, “Through our Student Career Day at IBEX, we’re providing an environment for learning and industry networking.”
Patty Lawrence, the IBEX Education Director, expressed enthusiasm, “We are thrilled to help introduce students to the boatbuilding industry. Nowhere else can they gain such a comprehensive overview of the marine sector. Our collaboration with ABYC to host Student Career Day serves as a valuable link to potential employers, and we hope to make this an annual event.”
Exhibitors participating in Student Career Day include Faria Beede Instruments, Jabsco/Xylem, Magic Tilt, Syntec, Transhield, and Yamaha.
