MTC health occupation students win 25 awards | From the Lakewood Ranch Herald Tribune
Health occupations students from Manatee and Sarasota counties competed in the HOSA-Future Health Professionals regional competition at Manatee Technical College East Campus on February 3, 2016. Manatee Technical College students garnered 25 medals.
The students competed in leadership and teamwork events, emergency preparedness events, health science events such as medical terminology and medical math, and health professions events such as dental science, massage therapy, medical assisting, and sports medicine.
MTC students won 15 gold, 7 silver, and one each 3rd, 4th and 5th place medals in the college-level competitions.
First-place winners were Sylvia Alvarez, Nathan James, Samantha Santaw, Hector Reyes, Joselyn Rodriguez, Amy Congilaro, Laci Richardson, Elizabeth Spence, Edith Garcia, Jeremy Perrin,Nancy Alvarado, Fernando Mejia, Vidalia Monsivis, Romina Ronda, Jeremy Byram, Maria Francisco and Irene Guevara. In second place were Lauen Ritchie, Linda Rampone, Sunny Perez, Perla Carlos, Edith Garcia, Abigail Costides, and Janet Balderas. Other medal winners were Laci Richardson, Elizabeth Spence, and Mayra Ramirez.
In the high school division, Manatee High School had a very strong showing. Students from Palmetto High, Southeast and Lakewood Ranch, Bayshore and Braden River high schools also competed in the secondary-level competitions.
The medal winners will advance to the state-level competition to be held in Orlando, April 14-17.
