MANATEE — The Manatee County School Board accepted a generous donation from the Bradenton Fire Department before the school board meeting Monday.

The fire department donated a 1987 fire engine to the district for student use at the Manatee Technical Institute.

“The truck has another 10 good years in it, and will assist MTI in the education of our region’s future firefighters,” said Bradenton Fire Chief Charles Edwards.

The estimated value of the donated fire truck is $180,000.

Along with the fire truck, the fire department also presented school board Chairwoman Karen Carpenter with an oversized key.

Mary Cantrell, director of the Manatee Technical Institute, was there for the donation, alongside the five board members and Superintendent Rick Mills.
